For a brief moment, engineering had a new head of the department. But the UEA sent us the bottom of the barrel with some shoddy paperwork and a lack of willingess to follow safety protocols. Sadly, he stuck around only long enough to bother me while I was trying to do final checks for the expedition and to infect us all with some strange foreign colony cold. It seems the UEA will have to advertise for the position... again. 


So, it's back to Niou and me being co-heads. Since Niou is currently down with the cold, address any major problems or project questions to me. 


Normally after an expedition heads out, engineering gets a bit of a break. But with the cold going around and Renji off base,  I'll probably just bank those days off until the expedition gets back. I want to get plans for the baths and hydroponic upgrades finalized and maybe start prep work during the lull. The next rotation  for the outpost need to be sorted out, too. Thankfully it doesn't need quite as many as out there now but we will have to bring out some more specialized equipment.

Fine. I was swabbed and have the cold but it's just a bit of a runny nose. I have made myself tea while I do paperwork.

I'm doing desk work. It's practically resting. Also just a call away if you have any tech trouble.

It's hardly anything. Most of engineering has a little something right now.

It's part of the job. But I'm taking lots of tea breaks and I'm delegating most of the physical work to others. Stop fussing. I should be the one fussing over you and Sadaharu.

I fuss because you always want to take on as much responsibility as possible. Just take a few days off.

Sadaharu and I are well. We have not encountered any issues.

Most of your work is still at the outpost unless you want to make any changes to the baths.

My plans for the baths have been finalized. It's an easy job that can be overseen by someone else if you need me back at the outpost.

I trust you to look at the steps for the next phase of the outpost and decide where to allocate your staff and yourself. Just submit your staffing list and schedule for the outpost so I know who's off base and when.

Yeah. The demo side of the outpost is pretty much done. I'll go out there this week to make sure everything is in place, and then I'll start staking the land for the demolition for the baths.

You'll receive my staffing list tonight. I will have a few guys in need of work, so please let me know if you need them.

Some have suggested the position is cursed. He was not the first head after all. In fact, he was the third.

So does that mean you or Niou are gonna die, or are you planning on taking the dying in shifts?

We're acting co-heads. It seems to be enough to escape the curse.

Nothing. The expedition has left and engineering staff is rotating through days off to make up for the prep crunch and sleep off the cold symptoms.


You're welcome. It is a more difficult skill than I realized.

Yes. Something about underlying conditions or missing vaccines? I wasn't paying that close attention.

The paperwork left behind has been troublesome.
