A New Year

Congratulations, Renji, on your well deserved promotion.

Sub Lt Sanada and Sub Lt Yanagi have a nice ring to it. The promotion was well overdue. The lesson here is do not change posts months before a promotion is guaranteed or you'll have to wait nearly a year for the next opportunity.

Now that the baths are complete, engineering is again focusing on upgrades. A list has already been started but if there's anything you think we should add, please let us know.

Also, I hope everyone is enjoying the design and tiling of the baths. They were inspired by classic onsen and retro bath houses in Japan. It took a team of us numerous hours to finish it all. Though it was certainly a good way to teach some of the engineers new skills and qualifications.

Busy Days

Juggling a large scale project and mission prep seems to becoming normal. At least the baths are less stress and pressure than fixing the medical labs. The baths are progressing though a bit slower now that we've had to split our focus to mission prep.

We've also been doing a full scale inventory and reorganization of supplies. Hopefully it will allow us to see what projects we can work on next and what we need to request from the UEA. If you have any larger projects you want engineering to handle, the next few weeks would be a good time to request it or consult with us.

Outside of work, Sadaharu has given me an updated exercise routine to help with some weaknesses he noticed. Zaizen, if you want to film another motivational health video thing, I normally go slowly through the routine the first time I do it to make sure my form is perfect. I could explain what I'm doing and how to do it if you thought it would be interesting to anyone.

Now that things are calmer in Engineering, and I have escaped medbay  I am going to restart swimming lessons and supervised swim time.
Swimming lessons are Tuesdays, 18:30-19:30 and supervised swims will be Thursdays 18:30-20:00 and Sundays 06:00-07:30.

The bath plans have been confirmed and we have already started construction. If all goes smoothly and nothing urgent comes up we may be able to open up ahead of schedule.

We're of course working on upgrades throughout the base, too. If you have any requests, make sure to submit them through the proper channels. Yelling your request to me or Niou while we're trying to eat or work out is not the proper channel.

Also, it's not engineering's job to make costumes for people who just happen to 'swing by'. If you want something, put in the proper request.

Engineering

For a brief moment, engineering had a new head of the department. But the UEA sent us the bottom of the barrel with some shoddy paperwork and a lack of willingess to follow safety protocols. Sadly, he stuck around only long enough to bother me while I was trying to do final checks for the expedition and to infect us all with some strange foreign colony cold. It seems the UEA will have to advertise for the position... again.

So, it's back to Niou and me being co-heads. Since Niou is currently down with the cold, address any major problems or project questions to me.

Normally after an expedition heads out, engineering gets a bit of a break. But with the cold going around and Renji off base,  I'll probably just bank those days off until the expedition gets back. I want to get plans for the baths and hydroponic upgrades finalized and maybe start prep work during the lull. The next rotation  for the outpost need to be sorted out, too. Thankfully it doesn't need quite as many as out there now but we will have to bring out some more specialized equipment.

It felt good to be out and working on a big project again but I didn't miss having to always be on my guard for dangers. Fortunately we were able to get a few structures set up for safety and comfort and the first areas of the mine opened up with only a few minor scratches and bruises.

Now that I'm back on the base I have a chance to catch up on the smaller projects of engineering and to find time to relax. And to work out properly. Engineering is a workout but it doesn't hit all the muscle groups or as much cardio as I like.

Renji, do you want to help me with a personal project?

Pool Safety

A few people have told me they can't swim so I'm sure there are more people on base who aren't confident in their swimming skills.

Since this seems a ridiculous survival skill to not have, I will be happy to offer water safety and swimming basic instructions on Tuesday and Thursday between 7-8pm. It would start after the expedition leaves. If you are interested, let me know.

And remember, if you don't know how to swim, don't go to the pool on your own. I don't want it closed because someone died in it.
sanada_g: (Kendo cut)
Engineering is almost finished building and modifying all of the equipment needed for the expedition.

The next step is training. Niou or I will be in charge of it.

We want to have everyone on the teams practice how to use the tech inside and outside so that both missions are a success. The sooner you sign up for the training, the more time we have to fix any problems. We're also aiming for no broken or lost equipment.

And a reminder. We don't deal with first aid or medical problems. Talk to medbay if you want training for that.
sanada_g: (Tiger)
Kirihara. Renji and I discussed it and I will oversee your punishment. You will report to the engineering labs between 1830-1900 every day until the two robots have been repaired to my satisfaction. While  I work on them, you will be set your own tasks.

I don't know how long this will go on for, so I'm sorry to anyone who I said I would try to find in the evenings to work out with. Between this and the night engineer being on leave, my schedule has gotten strange.

And lastly, I do not want to see members of engineering playing around with trading cards when they are on duty.
sanada_g: (Thinking)
It feels good to be back at base after a two-week mission in close-quarters and stuck in the nano suit.

And now that I have everything checked off, I'm going to take full advantage of the post-mission leave to relax. So nobody better destroy anything before Wednesday. I don't want to be called in for an emergency.

If anyone is free for a workout, a game of shogi, or wants to practice their calligraphy, let me know.

Repairs

The whole base is new and still being put together in places. Not everything will work right yet. But if you notice something that was working and now isn't or that you think should be working for the safety or good of the base, let engineering know. We'll try to get to it.

If it's something you broke because you were being stupid, be prepared to wait. We have a long to-do list.

A New Life

This Journal will now be used for the new RP [community profile] the_zone

Everything before this post is from a previous RP and everything after it will be for the Mechanic Sanada on Yomi.

I had quite an enjoyable winter holidays. Though I could do without being put into such a fancy and tight suit again anytime soon.

Thank you to everyone who got me a gift or sent me a new year's card. They were all appreciated.

As per tradition I helped to clean the dojo and house before the end of the year and did hatsumode on the first with my family. It was nice to have a few relaxing days all together but I'm happy to be back to my usual schedule.

I think once it's a bit colder and snowier a trip out to Hakone or Kusatsu to enjoy some outdoor onsen might be nice. Would anyone be interested in joining me?

ooc: Atobe got Sanada a bracelet that he's taken to wearing whenever he's not training. It's gold with a garnet. If asked about it, he'll say it's from Atobe and try to act all stoic and like it's not a big deal. But it probably comes out much more awkward and smitten than he intends.

sanada_g: (Hipster)
Has anyone ever celebrated a half birthday? Atobe is convinced it's a real thing.

Though I did enjoy my half birthday celebration. Atobe is quite the accomplished cook. We then enjoyed some private time to indulge in what I think people say as Netflix and chill.

December is just around the corner. That means it's time to start thinking about the end of year cleaning and being careful about the flu. Don't forget to wash your hands and wear a mask if you think you're getting sick.

Halloween

Does it make someone a bad friend if they decide to abandon the tradition of themed trio costumes?

Also, I will be at Atobe's party tonight. Costumes does not mean that vandalism and crude behaviour will be tolerated.

sanada_g: (Kendo cut)
Between social events and tennis, I've fallen a little behind on my university work. It was worth it but I think with a week of focused work and a couple less hours in the dojo is in order this week. I am open to suggestions for study music or background sounds. My family can be a it noisy at times so I find it useful to have something playing in headphones recently.

Atobe, I just wanted to thank you again for hosting me after your party. Breakfast was especially enjoyable. Even if I still think it a bit ridiculous and over indulgent.

Yukimura, Renji, we should go out for a nice brunch to celebrate how hard you worked in Rakuten before you get swept up in another tournament.

ooc: Since the cat is out of the bag with Sanada and Atobe doing the dating thing, he thought he would prove that he is not dying of shame about everyone knowing or how they may have acted while tipsy any make a knowingly public comment to Atobe.

Apparently being busy isn't an excuse for not updating...

So...

I've spent most of the summer doing kendo workshops or competitions around Japan... with Niou. He seemed to always know where I was going and just invited himself along. It was more strange than annoying. He seemed to enjoy the trip and even found some nice cafes for us to visit. Though I have no idea what he did during the day as he never came to the kendo tournaments despite inviting him.

I also spent a fair amount of time watching my young niece and nephew since the current pregnancy is making my sister-in-law really tired. I even took them up to our cabin in the Karuizawa area and we enjoyed a fun few days hiking, fishing, and relaxing in the onsen.

I'm now on my way to New York for a kendo workshop there and of course the US Open.

ooc: Finally off hiatus. Feel free to poke me if you want to plot with the grumpy guy. And also, please pretend this post is backdated about a week so he'll actually arrive in time for the US Open.

What?!

 Sanada-sama as Anpanman

Apparently my niece was painting rocks at school for an art project and thought that Sanada-Sama could use some decorations, too.

...

I just hope it will come clean with enough scrubbing.

Clearly another reason to move out. I need to protect the family rock from artistic children who do not yet know the importance of Sanada-sama's legacy.

Unexpected

My brother and his wife just announced they are expecting their fourth child... I love my family but perhaps it's time to move out so I can better focus on school.

Paris

I'm currently in Paris and enjoying it much more than I thought I would. It helps that many of my friends are here and there is plenty of good tennis to watch.

The flight over was interesting. I flew with Akaya and he spent most of the flight teaching me about these pocket monster creatures. Though as some of them are big enough to ride on, I don't see why they're called pocket monsters. Pikachu I was familiar wit but I didn't realize there were hundreds of them... and that they evolved... and got new names... I now know why Akaya has such trouble learning languages... his head is full of a million words from this Pocket Monster world.

I have agreed to give a few of the games a try and we installed PokemonGo onto my phone.

Pokemon in Paris

When not watching the tennis matches, I've been exploring some of Paris. Deschamps-kun has been recruited as my tour guide by Yukimura. I have to admit that he makes a good guide  And that he's not nearly as horrible as I had hoped he would be. We discovered a few great used clothing shops and some antique stores. He's also convinced he can convert me to a coffee lover. Japanese tea continues to reign supreme though I admit that a few pastries we've sampled have outclassed those back home.

He apparently has no interest in Turkish oil wrestling other than watching. So I'll either need to rethink my plans for what to do when he comes to Japan or convince him of the merits of wrestling.

ooc: Please pretend that Sanada screen capped this picture and the tag on the corner is not there.

Birthday

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Though it seems weird to celebrate my birthday without my closest friends at hand. I look forward to proper celebrations when everyone returns.

Instead, I enjoyed a quiet birthday dinner with my family. My niece even helped to make me ichigo daifuku for dessert. I hope rest of the evening remains peaceful despite what people may be saying on the journals.

Sanada-sama and Ichigo Daifuku
Sanada-sama also enjoyed the ichigo daifuku.
