A week of Normal

It felt good to be out and working on a big project again but I didn't miss having to always be on my guard for dangers. Fortunately we were able to get a few structures set up for safety and comfort and the first areas of the mine opened up with only a few minor scratches and bruises. 

 
Now that I'm back on the base I have a chance to catch up on the smaller projects of engineering and to find time to relax. And to work out properly. Engineering is a workout but it doesn't hit all the muscle groups or as much cardio as I like.

Fitspo? So people see me work out and think they want to do that? I guess that's similar to what already happens in the gym just on a larger scale.

Yeah. Stuff like that's really popular. I used to post videos of Kenya-san's leg workouts all the time and people loved it.

I guess there's no problem in recording a workout then. I'll send you my planned schedule for the next few days.

And good job with all of your hard work, too. With all of the surprises in the cave systems, a wrongly placed explosive could have easily caused a lot of problems.

Thank you! I make sure to survey the land extensively before even touching any explosives. Hopefully, demolition for the baths will start here after the outpost is up and running.

Rigging together the big pieces isn't that hard and we had a lot of staff with us. I'm relying on you and your crew to get the first parts of the more complicated systems for the actual mining setup.

I had an idea for the hydroponic setup. Something like this, but taller. Maybe 3 stacks? And to make it sturdier, a tapered effect. Thicker/heavier at the bottom and going smaller to the third level. Thoughts?

I think that would be feasible but we'd need to change some parts of the structure and material to make it for the base and make it more stable and sturdy enough to survive handling by staff and harvesting of plants. Let me take a look at our inventory and draft up a couple designs for you.

I did mention thicker/sturdier at the bottom, Sanada. If we could manage it, I think a wood base embedded in the ground to start, then building up from that would be the most beneficial. That might allow to go above three levels if done correctly. Then PVC for the rest since we really just need the base to be sturdy enough to take the weight of the rest. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey Genichirou, just letting you know that I'm going to be up tonight figuring out a list of things we need to do for the expeditions and I'll divvy up what I'll get done this week with the people here, and what you'll do when you get back. And then we can have that couple of days together finalising stuff before they head off.

Look at you taking lead and doing teamwork. I am impressed.

I'm going to take a closer look at the entrance of the area they'll be exploring and might add some more things to the list. But it's good to get as much compiled and started as we can.

I mean. I have friends going on this round of expeditions. I actually care.

Ok. Send my drone if you want to get some bigger scans of the area. With the communications tower, it should have the range.

I see... I also have friends and family going. So we both have the extra motivation.

I'm concerned for Team 2. I hope the slacker doesn't pull them down with him.

I'm assigning Akutsu to stay at the base for the next shift as well, instead of coming out with me. Hopefully an extra set of hands with the expedition equipment will be helpful.

He is a superior officer... so I shall leave opinions on him for you to voice.

At least team 2 is only doing above-ground recon and are not expected to fight any of the worms or crawl through mud in darkness.

Working on reliable and long-life light sources that can take a lot banging around and water should be a priority.

I'm sure Akutsu will have some interesting ideas on what team 2 will need.

He's is just a waste of breathable air on the planet and I hope he gets eaten by a sandworm.

I'll brainstorm a few ideas tonight and let you know what I come up with regarding the light source. It's going to be difficult.

If you can think about what we can do about falling rocks for team 2, that'd be marvellous.

I'll check the engineering records and see what we have to work off of for both the lights and rock issues. It's always easier to modify something than to start from scratch.
