Back in Business

Now that things are calmer in Engineering, and I have escaped medbay  I am going to restart swimming lessons and supervised swim time. 
Swimming lessons are Tuesdays, 18:30-19:30 and supervised swims will be Thursdays 18:30-20:00 and Sundays 06:00-07:30. 


The bath plans have been confirmed and we have already started construction. If all goes smoothly and nothing urgent comes up we may be able to open up ahead of schedule. 

We're of course working on upgrades throughout the base, too. If you have any requests, make sure to submit them through the proper channels. Yelling your request to me or Niou while we're trying to eat or work out is not the proper channel. 


Also, it's not engineering's job to make costumes for people who just happen to 'swing by'. If you want something, put in the proper request.

I'm actually thinking we should probably change the open-access to engineering, given some incidents. I mean, we have some pretty expensive equipment, it would be terrible for someone to break it.

Biometric ID required to get in?

The offices and rooms with machinery should already require access cards or codes to enter... assuming people have been closing the doors properly. Did you want to add more access limitations or upgrade the ones we have?

We do still have to be reachable.

add more limitations to get into the entire area. We can put a physical box out the front of the door for people to submit requests into. I have a form already made up, I can print it out.

We are not going to have a box outside of engineering. We can convert the initial common work room into a reception area/paperwork area and move the common work room further into engineering.

how boring. The current set up is fine. It'll just be more work to rearrange things anyway.

What happened to fears of equipment safety?

You should. But I know most of your work is done during the night shift.

I've actually been thinking about adjusting my hours to work more during the day. As part of my motivation to start sleeping at night more, you know. We don't actually need a night shift.

I will get posters reminding people to make sure doors are secure no matter how troublesome they find it.


We could do a rotating night shift. Pair up engineers and everyone takes a turn just in case any emergencies pop up.

Yeah that works. And if there's an actual base-melting emergency, they can come get me from my office. I should still be in there fairly regularly at night.

It'll actually be kind of nice to work with you properly full time.

Exactly. Either you or I can be on call for emergencies that those covering the night shift can't handle.


You don't think we'll get on each other's nerves two weeks in?

That's fine. I'm going to spend a few nights not in the loft, we can take it in turns to be reachable.

Haha, no. It's not like I'm planning on living in the lab full time with you. I'll still be in my office.

I'm sure we can work something out if you really want to give up nights.


Hmmm... I see. So you want to work daytime hours while still avoiding all of the crew?

... I'll emerge occasionally. It's not as though people need to see me or anything. If they want a head of engineering to look at, you're a much nicer sight. But I do actually do a lot of work in my office.

I'm not saying you aren't doing your work. Just that you aren't much of a teamwork kind of guy. It's fine. Just try to make an appearance once and a while.

Why wouldn't I? You are the co-head and I often share your suggestions and key points from your to-do lists in the meetings.
